Simplicity was the first Swedish fund company to launch an Africa fund in 2006. This means that we have many years of experience of investing in the massive continent that Africa is.
There are 20 marketplaces in Africa, where the stock exchange in South Africa (Johannesburg Stock Exchange) is by far the largest both in terms of listed companies and market capitalization. The South African stock exchange is among the twenty largest in the world, and the fund also has its largest holdings on JSE. It is estimated that South Africa has most of the world’s total reserves of the manganese, platinum and chrome metals and 40% of the world’s gold. South Africa is also dominant in production and sales on the world market of these and several other essential minerals. In addition, unlike other parts of Africa, South Africa has a well-developed physical infrastructure, expanded telecommunications, a well-functioning financial system and a plenteous retail industry. As an investor, it is important to be aware of the risks in order to understand the opportunities. Simplicity have invested on the African stock exchanges for more than ten years and can see the difference between risks and opportunities in Africa.
Most of the African countries are still classified as emerging markets, which entails an increased risk. We therefore recommend a savings horizon of at least five years for Simplicity Africa. For current market conditions, please contact us.
